Deep down the meadow, a car was making its way. Two interwoven souls were sitting within it in their sunny chairs. He dreams a little and she feels the dark a little more. Rug mingle of them dissipate his love and her lightless sorrows. But the fact was that they loved each other with a love that was more than love.
” Kavya, are you nervous?” he felt the ice in her beautiful blue eyes.
A sudden break of silence compelled her to feel the bit of what he has asked. She reluctantly turned her head from left to right and then to left again, resuming then to feel the warmth of fresh air touching her cheeks and making them dry.
Reading the scores of fears which were framed on her face, he stopped the car. Holding her hands more tightly, he broke ” Kavya, look here! I am bound to you. Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own. Your name is a golden bell hung in my heart. I won’t let anyone do wrong to my heart. Just think”.
She couldn’t held her emotions anymore and broke. Broken inside the insight, she delivered her pain, ” Shikhar, my life is nothing more than a moonless night. You are a only star here sparkling light and reason. Reason to live. You are absorbing my share of agonies. But I don’t want anyone other than my star to even look at me. I can’t summon courage to face the world without you”.
He held her close to his chest, felt her sobbing, saw the tears on her cheeks. Drinking them, he started, ” Shona, in your light, I learn how to love. It is gonna be easy. I am here. I am listening to your songs always. Never feel alone”. He wiped her tears.
Feeling the regained consciousness of her, Shikhar started the car. His one hand was on the steering and another one was locked firmly with that of his blind light.
Bus stand arrived, before she left, she threw her arms around Shikhar, her husband, her star, her golden bell heart taker. Her tears filled her eyes with gratitude of his patience, his loyalty and his love. Kavya gathered strength, went out of the car door which her heart taker has opened already. She bid him good bye and made her way carefully up the steps with the white cane accompanying her.
It has been a year since Kavya, a winged cupid became blind. Due to a medical misdiagnosis, she had been rendered sightless. She was thrown into a world of darkness, anger, frustration and self pity. She felt condemned by this terrible twist of fate to become a helpless burden. A cloud of depression hung over Kavya’s once optimistic spirit. All she had to cling to was his husband Shikhar. Shikhar was an airforce officer and loved Kavya with all of his heart. He watched her sink into despair but was determined to help his wife gain strength to become independent again. He admitted to himself that she need to return to her job to gain confidence. But just the thought of mentioning it to her fragile sightless wife made him cringe. Just as he predicted, she was horrified. She felt as if he was abandoning her. His heart broke but he had no other option but to take some risk for Kavya’s welfare. He taught her how to rely on her other senses, to determine where she was and how to adapt to her new department.
Each morning they made their journey together and then she would take a bus to get to her office.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday…..
On Friday morning, Kavya took bus to work as usual. As she was paying for her fare, driver said ” Sister, I sure envy you”. Kavya was not sure if the driver was speaking to her or not. Curious, she asked, ” Why do you say that you envy me?”
Driver responded, ” It must feel so good to be taken care of and protected like you are”. Kavya asked again, ” What do you mean?” Driver answered, ” You know, every morning for past week, a fine looking gentleman in a military uniform has been standing across corner watching you when you get off the bus. He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, gives you a little salute and walks away. You are a lucky woman”.
Tears of happiness poured down Kavya’s cheeks. For although she could not physically see him, she had always felt Shikhar’s presence.
Walking towards the home, she found herself knotted with his blessings. Kavya was lucky, for he had given her sight. As he opened the door, she clinged him tightly. There she was safe and secured. Daises were guarding her from every harm. She hugged him even more tightly on their bed. He caressed his soulmate who teared apart her fears. He broke her heart open to let new light get in, made her transform her life. She kissed her spiritual master and smiled into his eyes. He putted her hands on his chest to let her sense how fast his heart was beating, so intimately that when he fall asleep, she closed her eyes.
